Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

It’s called Jamie’s Food Revolution and its about a chef who goes into a school cafeteria and tries to make them change their menu to healthier food. They showed a sneak peak of this show about a week ago and man is it an awareness. Bless that man! Our country talks about how Obese our children are but what is anyone doing about it? This show is a massive shift in awareness. He goes into the house of one women who has three kids, and he shows how most of the food is cooked with a fry cooker. For breakfast they have fried donuts, lunch is fried chicken and french fries, dinner is pizza. Seriously you just might do a little vomit in your mouth! Really? IS this even possible? Jamie buries the fry cooker in the back yard and the kids are happy about it, duh! What Jamie’s doing is heroic and he’s trying to move an entire industry that is ages old and broken, kind of like our health care system. He needs help though and this show is the beginning of an awareness that just might encourage mom’s everywhere to get into the business of their schools. And wait until you see the lunch ladies and how they react to change… holy moly!

Sign the petition to save America’s cooking skills and improve school food. It could be the most important thing you ever do for your family. America’s health needs you now! This petition will go to President Obama for change.

2. If you have kids make them watch this show. Everything begins with awareness. If kids don’t know what all this fried food does to them, they won’t have any inclination of changing… Take your kids to the gym and show them how much they need to work out in exchange for the calories they ingest. For example, give them a small happy meal from McDonald’s. Then go to www.calorieking.com and look up the calories - just type in Happy Meal under the search box ( see below is what I got). 640 Calories for a McDonald’s Kids Menu: Happy Meals, Cheeseburger, with Small Fries & Sprite (12 fl oz)-

To burn 640 calories, you could do any of the following:

  • 177 mins of walking
  • 73 mins of jogging
  • 53 mins of swimming
  • 98 mins of cycling

Then make your child do the work… and that’s only for ONE MEAL! Our life is all about choice and so is their’s. If you arm your children with the awareness of what happens when they consume fat and calories, then it is still their choice. Be a supportive parent and love your children by giving them the power of choice. If you just cut them off and don’t explain why, they’ll just do it on their own while you’re not looking, not realizing what they are doing to themselves. Educate your children and set them up for a healthy future, because prevention is where it’s at! We are advocates of this philosophy - just like our water, AQUAMANTRA. Focus on the good stuff and good stuff will show up.
